Since we came here, we have had a distinct shortage of snow and cold. We have missed the freezing temperatures and feet of snow. We have actually been a bit sad about it. How could we not, I mean what is life like without the feeling in your fingers of numbness and the total lack of feeling in your toes. How about the feeling of careening out of control after a foot of snow has fallen while trying to steer out of your driveway. Well, this all came to an end. I think the best way to describe it is to quote a local paper as it described the recent snowfall.
Temperatures were set to plummet overnight to as low as -4c in Wales and the Midlands and -3c in South-East England and the West of Scotland, forecasters said.
More than 2,000 schools which were forced to close yesterday are expected to remain shut today.
Supermarkets reported panic-buying as shoppers stocked up on bread, milk, and other essentials.
Met Office expert John Hammond said travel disruption could be equally as bad as yesterday. He added: With all the snow around, it could be very icy on Friday morning, especially on untreated roads.
Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of motorists, air and rail passengers faced delays and cancellations as snow swept the country.
So, lets take a look at the facts. First, -3c is 26f. Remember that the temperature plummeted to 26... brrrrrrrr! Second, the snow that fell amounted to 4 inches, and none actually fell in Brighton. These two things combined actually put a halt to this country. Rail travel in some places was actually cancelled all day, trains were late all day, and parents called into school to say that their kids could not make the 2 block walk to school for fear of instant death by slipping and freezing to death because no one would be able to see them beneath all the snow.
