As the day progressed, she was checked and found to still be only dialated to 2-3. They decided to up the Pitocin and this resulted in sudden painful contractions. From there, about an hour or so later, she was dialted to 8 and crowning. Needless to say there was no time for a water birth. This, of course, was disappointing since we had waited all day for it and since we watched a woman come in in labor, go to the tub, and have her baby all without screaming or appearing in pain. Anyway, we're not bitter!
And then less then an hour later our son was born. This was all amazing and fast. He was born with his membrane intact, which apparently is a blessing and not common. There were some complications, however. After he passed his head through Andrea expelled quite a bit of blood. It was apparently placenta abruption. At the time it was not too concerning, but when he came out he was limp, but was breathing with a good heart beat. He was put under the warmer, cleaned up, and thankfully not brought to the NICU. He was finally returned to mommy and started to come around. This was all very scary, but not too different to when Mia was born.
Anyway, everyone is happy, healthy, and looking forward to our new life. Here are some pictures.
This is Andrea exhibiting how a 'natural' child birth occurs.
Mia holding her baby brother.
Mia found the tele. This look might be a reason why we don't have a tv at home. Can you say zoning?
And now for the name:Jonah Albert Joel Raich
